How to vote on 7 May 2026

The Hackney Mayoral election is on Thursday 7 May 2026. Here is everything you need to know to make sure your vote counts.

Polling hours

Polling stations are open from 7:00am to 10:00pm. If you are in the queue at 10pm, you are still entitled to vote.

Where to vote

Your polling station is printed on your poll card. You can also look it up at wheredoivote.co.uk. You must vote at your assigned station.

Voter ID required

You must bring an accepted photo ID — passport, driving licence, older person's bus pass, blue badge, or a Voter Authority Certificate. Without it, you will not be allowed to vote.

Postal & proxy votes

Postal vote applications must reach Hackney Council by 5pm, 22 April 2026. Proxy vote applications by 5pm, 29 April 2026. Apply at gov.uk/apply-postal-vote.

Are you registered?

You must be registered to vote in Hackney to take part. The deadline to register for this election was 22 April 2026. Check your registration by calling Hackney Council Electoral Services on 020 8356 3232 or emailing electoral.services@hackney.gov.uk.

What you'll be voting for

On 7 May you will be voting for the directly-elected Mayor of Hackney. The Mayor leads the council, sets the borough's strategic direction, and is accountable for spending, services, housing, and safety in Hackney.

How the vote works

The Mayor of Hackney is elected using a Supplementary Vote system in some years and First Past the Post in others — please check your ballot paper carefully. Mark your choice clearly with a cross (✗). I'm asking for your 1st preference for Vahid Almasi — Reform UK.

Help, I have a problem on the day

If you are turned away, told you are not on the register, or have any issue at the polling station, ask immediately for the Presiding Officer. You can also call the Electoral Commission on 0333 103 1928.

Every single vote matters. Please use yours.
